Why Mangrove Security?

Just as a mangrove helps new islands form and shields small fish from the large predators, we are here to try and create "a place to help you grow safely on the Net" by providing network security assistance for small and home businesses; a place where you can contact an engineer, get network security evaluations, ask for assistance on a security incident response, or find out what you need to do to set up security policies in your organization. We believe that small office/home office businesses and non-profits should have people to ask and get help from - security knowledge should be available to everyone, not just the large corporations and those that can pay thousands just for one engineer to visit.

If you think there is something we can do to help you stay safe and grow, please let us know. We are located in the Washington, DC metropolitan area.

Why a mangrove?

Mangroves are one of the few plants that can filter salt water for its own consumption; that and their ability to grow in harsh environments allows them to spread quickly. Mangroves also create a root structure that not only fixes the plant in place, but creates a haven for small fish and other creatures to grow in a relatively safe place as large predators can not get in. Mangroves growing in otherwise open shallow water often herald the growth of a new island as leaves, debris, and other debris in the water accumulate around the root structures. Small offices need security, but can rarely provide that security by themselves.

Why network security?

Network security is vital in today's world - the ability to keep your personal data personal and your public data from getting changed at a whim by crackers is as important in modern business as keeping your customers happy and your people productive. Often, improving your network's security posture can be as simple as adding one or two policies to your daily environmental habits of your people; an evaluation from an ethical professional can tell you the difference between a needing a simple fix and something that requires a complete network overhaul. Small companies in particular need to have a presence on the Net, and rarely have the security expertise in-house to maintain it properly. We try to help small companies and home office companies at rates they can afford, as opposed to large consulting companies that charge all the traffic will bear.
